About the Cultural Forum, Manipur
Founded on Monday, May 17, 1959, the Cultural Forum, Manipur, emerged from a gathering of like-minded individuals at the residence of Late Ningthoukhongjam Tombi Singh, the then MP of Lok Sabha, in Uripok. It stands as the second oldest literary forum in Manipur, following the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, and is recognized by the Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters. The Forum’s first President was Late N. Tombi Singh, Ex-MP, Lok Sabha, with Late RK Mani Singh serving as its first General Secretary.
Objectives of the Forum
- Intellectual Hub: To create a center where intellectuals interested in literature and various fields of art can meet regularly and discuss the problems of Manipuri art and culture.
- Publication: To publish a journal in Manipuri that reflects the unique way of life of the Manipuris and gives expression to non-controversial ideas on various issues.
- Discussion Platform: To identify and thoroughly discuss important topical issues dispassionately.
- Virtue Promotion: To initiate programs that inculcate the virtues of regularity, discipline, courtesy, and harmonious living.
